Good morning everyone!
Following the release of the iBooks Author app last week, I was wondering if we are still caught between an iGrudge between Adobe and Apple.
You may (or may not, due to the lack of media hype) remember Adobe releasing a tool last year that we all thought was pretty darn cool, the Digital Publishing Suite, which was intended to allow all of us mere mortals without programming skills the magic powers of building applications (digital publications in this case) for iPad, Android, Kindle and other mobile devices. Well, now Apple has released the iBooks Author, which quite honestly seems very very cool at first glance (I am downloading right now free from the app store, I will let you know my thoughts once I use it) and promises anyone with a creative mind the same abilities that were once limited to a staff of creative people and an army of Objective C programmers... hmmm am I the only one that sees a pattern in killing flash and then showing off your new, simplified tool in a way that makes your pseudo-competitor seem overpriced and cumbersome? You think Steve may have left a well-drawn plan to kick Adobe in the nuts for some time to come?
Let's face it, Apple's business model is great and their branding is something that we all admire, and some time ago Adobe had that too, programmers, designers and creative people would never envision a Mac without Adobe's software in it, lately though, it just seems that the race is more about hitting each other under the belt than to provide a constant wow factor to the consumer; don't get me wrong guys, I still love and admire both companies, I just feel we had a lot more going for us as consumers before these two turned on each other.
I don't know, I've been a Mac and Adobe user for longer than I care to remember and I can't help to wander off and reminisce the good old days when we all got along and made awesome things together, but oh well, in the meantime I will finish downloading this freebie and let you know how it works.
